2026 Mid-Atlantic Sea Grant Fundamentals Workshop

The Fundamentals Workshop is an additional fee and does not include registration for the Regional Meeting. 

Objectives of the Fundamentals Workshop

  • Create a network of Sea Grant professionals within the Mid-Atlantic region that is better able to plan and implement impactful presentations, programs, and workshops.
  • Create a cohort of Sea Grant professionals within the Mid-Atlantic region that can brainstorm ideas, partner on projects, and someday lead/mentor new Sea Grant staff.
  • Share best practices, skills, lessons learned, and ideas that will lead to impactful Sea Grant extension, education, communication, and research projects, and administrative efficiency.

Deliverables

  • Two pre-workshop videoconference sessions. 
  • One, 2-day workshop focused on fundamental Sea Grant skills. This workshop will enhance content learned in home-program onboarding and training, teach new skills, and grow participants’ professional networks.
  • Follow-up videoconference session(s) to reconvene the participants, discuss workshop content application, current/ongoing hurdles, etc.

Outcomes

After completing the Fundamentals workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Immediately apply valuable Sea Grant content and skills learned at the workshop
  • Share content, skills, and resources from the workshop with their Sea Grant coworkers through conversations and local trainings
  • Utilize a cohort of regional Sea Grant professionals to brainstorm new project ideas and situations, and with whom to collaborate on future projects
  • Better understand the structure of Sea Grant and be a more impactful Sea Grant professional

Note: The Mid-Atlantic Sea Grant Fundamentals Workshop is NOT meant to be a replacement for Sea Grant Academy (currently on hiatus).

Mid-Atlantic Sea grant regional meeting continues (Separate Registration Required)

Note: If the Mid-Atlantic Sea Grant Network Meeting is moved to virtual or cancelled, the Fundamentals Workshop will be cancelled and not held virtually. One of the most valuable aspects of the National Sea Grant Academy and Fundamentals Workshop is the networking/cohort-building, which will not be as effective in a virtual format.
